Tiburtina Tuesday – join us any Tuesday evening for Rome’s `best night out’,
from 20.30 in front of the Hotel New Gemini, between Tiburtina bus and train stations. (Look for`Project Rome’ on Google Maps.) Volunteers of all nationalities, from all walks of life, join us to serve up to 200 hungry people. And as well as serving our nutritious stew, made up of 10 fresh vegetables, meat and oven potatoes, with salt, pepper, peperoncino, parmignano and olive oil… we feed souls, with hugs, a kind word, a chat, an embrace, a kiss.
Beneath the Bridges – Every Thursday and Sunday at approximately 19.15 for an hour you will find us beneath the Circonvallazione Tiburtina flyover bridges (Beside the `a’ of Circonvallazione Tiburtina on Google maps) and from approximately 20.30, on a Sunday (only) in Piazza Poli serving 30 people who sleep in a church. PLEASE be patient and wait for us. We can’t be spot on with our timing – just look out for our Project Rome white people carrier.
The Project Rome Difference:-
Every Tuesday we set up tables and benches on the street so up to 40 people can sit down and eat. We serve women and the elderly first, and we provide donated shoes, clothes, toiletries and other essentials, on a `list’ basis, rather than dispensing items from the car.
For all of our food services, we only serve food of the quality we would give our own families or friends. We embrace, we hug, we kiss, we look people in the eye, ask their names (and we remember them), and we check if they are in need – of a blanket or sleeping bag, jeans, shoes or toiletries, and bring them the following week.
And please, donate what you can to help us sustain these activities.
The SMALL PRINT
Just like all organisations, we have some simple rules which we ask you to please adhere to when working with us:
1. NEVER give out money, a few coins will only perpetuate a life on the street, it will not get a man back on his feet
2. When serving on the street please don’t wear expensive jewellery or bring valuables
3. Please don’t hand out your own donations of clothes, shoes or food
4. Please keep with the group of volunteers, don’t go off alone or find yourself isolated
