Rome’s best night out
Every Tuesday Project Rome’s multi-national group of volunteers meets at 20.30 in front of the Hotel New Gemini, Via Guido Mazzoni, Rome, where we are greeted by well over 100 desperate, hungry and lonely men and women.
Every Sunday evening, at 20.30 we go to the Chiesa Custodi and Angeli, Via Poli, where we’re met by around 30 men and women who sleep overnight in the church or who live in extreme poverty, close by.
We set up tables on the street, we serve nutritious home cooked meals from huge pans, we greet our homeless friends with friendship and hugs. We know many of their names, we know their shoe sizes, and we spend a couple of hours talking with them, serving food, drinks, giving out clothing, shoes toiletries, and most of all showing genuine human warmth, kindness and compassion.
We cut hair, we talk, we hug, we offer beard shaves, we treat them as friends, and we only give them the quality of food or clothing that we would give our own families.
Please join us any Tuesday or Sunday evening from 20.30. Please bring a couple of big bottles of soft drinks/soda or some cakes and put them in Bella to serve later. Grazie mille!
Meet us here every Tuesday evening at 20.30.
Via Mazzoni Guido, 24
Just a quiet word… to keep these evenings as stress free and relaxed as they have become, please observe a few simple rules when volunteering with Project Rome
1. NEVER give out money, it is a fundamental rule that we have, no matter how sad the sob story is. Our help goes far deeper than handing out coins or cash.
2. Don’t wear expensive jewellery and all personal bags should be locked in the support vehicle.
3. Don’t hand out your own donations of clothes, shoes or food during the evening, put them straight in the support vehicle.
4. Don’t go off alone, keep with the group, don’t find yourself isolated or put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.
